Self-Assessment
In preparation for our closing meeting, please prepare a one-page self-assessment reflecting on your learning and experience in this course. Suggested structure:
- Key Takeaways: What are 2-3 key things you can take away from this course? Consider how it might shape a job interview, a family conversation, or some situations you might encounter in the workplace. Point to specific activities, discussions, assignments, etc. if you can.
- Learning Objectives: Revisit the learning objectives listed in the syllabus 1. For each one, briefly reflect on:
- What evidence you have that you met this objective?
- What could you do to grow more in this area?
- Activity Types: For each of the main types of activities we did in this course (see below), assess the strengths and weaknesses of your engagement.
- Suggested Course Grade (see below). Justify your suggested grade with reference to the learning objectives and your overall engagement in the course.
- Feedback for the Instructor: When we offer this course again, what should we keep the same? What should we change? What should we add or remove?
Activity Types
- Project
- At-home practice activities (e.g., the Course Advisor Bot mini-project)
- In-class activities
- Readings and discussion forums
- Giving and receiving feedback
- Handout check-ins (on paper, almost every class meeting)
Letter Grades
- A: can clearly demonstrate competence and/or growth in all of the main objectives of the course listed on the Syllabus
- B: can clearly demonstrate competence and/or growth in most of the main objectives
- C: can demonstrate growth in some objectives, but unclear
- D: engaged the course content but did not demonstrate growth or competence
- F: did not meaningfully engage the course content
Use “+” and “-” as needed if your performance is between these levels. Remember that Calvin does not use A+.
